About MAFO Doors
- Mafo watertight doors are standard quick acting type, meaning that the door can be operated with one handle.
- Mafo doors are specifically designed for use aboard of Naval ships and comply with all common pressure standards and with the most stringent shock, vibration and use norms, under which MIL Std 901D, MIL Std 167, German Navy Norm VG85170 , Lloyds and ABS/NVR. Mafo doors are designed under cycle tests up to more than seven million cycles for testing the lifespan.
- Mafo doors are designed with a closing mechanism that makes the doors almost maintenance-free.
- Mafo doors are designed for tension-free build in by shipyards in a typical shipyard environment.
- Mafo doors are designed for a weight that is as light as possible.
- Standard Mafo doors have a low RCS signature.
- Doors are made out of steel, stainless steel and aluminium.
- Doors can be designed in an A 60 rated construction, at which a high degree of sealing is still present after fire and the door can still be operated.
- Mafo hatches are designed with the almost maintenance-free Mafo closing mechanism that is also used for the doors.
- Hatches can be designed as flush hatches or as raised hatches.
- Hatches can be designed with all typical accessories, such as locks, switches, test plugs, etc.
- Mafo Escape Scuttles are round hatches with a minimum diameter of 550 mm.
- Standard pressure classes up to 150 kPa.
- In a closed situation the hangar door is Light- & Weathertight. The design of the hangar door is strong enough to withstand helicopter operations (downwash of the helicopter when landing & taking-off) from the deck.
- The electrics of the hangar door meet MIL-STD-462E standards. The Control box and the Drive Unit have successfully passed a MIL-STD-901D shocktest. The hangar door itself has been shock analyzed in accordance with MIL-STD-901D.

Mafo has sold several thousand doors to a large number of Navies around the world. The current design of a virtually maintenance free door started around 1987 and is now used by the following Navies:
US Navy:
- San Antonio Class (LPD 17)
- DDG-1000 Zumwalt Class Destroyer
- Arleigh Burke Class (DDG 51) All doors from DDG 103 onward. Exchange program of approximately 10 doors per ship, aboard of almost all of the ships of Class (DDG 51 - DDG 102)
- Freedom Class (LCS 1) All frequently used doors.
- T-AOE-8 6 doors (test doors of an exchange program of all frequently used doors)
US Coast Guard:
- Ice Breaker USCGC "MacKinow"
- Ice breaker USCGC "Healy" (All existing doors are being replaced by Mafo doors)
Israeli Navy:
- Frigates "SA’AR 5"
German Navy:
- Tender Type 404 “ELBE Klasse” - Replacement of several doors on all ships
- Fleet Service Vessels Type 423 “OSTE Klasse” - Replacement of several doors on all ships
